Those who know IWC Schaffhausen know that its brand philosophy speaks to technology, development, and producing excellent quality timepieces since 1868. The brand itself says: “IWC crafts masterpieces of haute horlogerie at their finest, combining supreme precision with exclusive design.”

This year, the brand launched two new timepieces, forming part of its Ingenieur family, at the Rallye Passione Caracciola. The one watch is named The Ingenieur Chronograph Edition Rudolf Caracciola, after the 1930s racing driver Rudolf Caracciola, to whom the race itself is also dedicated.

The second special edition timepiece is called Ingenieur Chronograph Edition W 125 and is inspired by the legendary Silver Arrow from Mercedes-Benz. Georges Kern, the CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, says: “The Rallye Passione Caracciola preserves the memory of one of the greatest racing drivers of all time and brings together a unique collection of lovingly maintained vintage cars and their owners. As partners, we’re proud and honoured to support this exclusive event for the second time.”

The Ingenieur Chronograph Edition Rudolf Caracciola (Ref IW380702) boasts a slate-coloured dial, embossed tachymeter scale, rhodium-plated hands, and a brown calfskin strap, which includes embossing emulating that on vintage racing car seats.

Caracciola was a Mercedes star driver who won three European Championship titles and was sometimes known as the “King of the Rain”, as he drove so expertly on wet tracks.

The Ingenieur Chronograph Edition Rudolf Caracciola (IW387802) from IWC Schaffhausen. “The dial imitates the instrument look of the historic racing cars which, at the height of Caracciola’s career, took him from one victory to the next. The timepiece is limited to 750 pieces.”
