It’s no secret that there are many great dining options in Johannesburg, and Glenda’s in Hyde Park is a lovely addition to that. The trendy and quirky new restaurant, although in an upmarket part of the city, is unassuming, warm and inviting. “I wanted to have a space where different people could come and have a meal, whether lunch or dinner, sit at the bar and have a drink, or even have tea out in the garden,” says owner and chef Glenda Lederle.

Glenda’s has only been open to the public for a few months and in that short time, has attracted a lot of people. Some attribute its popularity to the quirky pastel wallpaper and decor. The freshly picked roses displayed on each table, along with Lederle’s mouth-watering cheese puffs, which she serves to all the guests, gives the space a personal touch.

Although the eatery was only recently opened for dinner, the eclectic menu includes a good range to choose from, including the hearty butternut soup, which is perfect for winter, the salt and pepper calamari with pineapple chilli, creamy artichoke gratin with French bread and rocket, and Glenda’s famous salmon fishcakes with capers and rocket mayo. We also got to taste a new, decadent calamari and caviar dish soon to be added to the dinner menu.
