Urbanologi: very industrial, very urban.
Urbanologi: very industrial, very urban.

At last! A Joburg eatery to rival any Bree Street offering. This culinary
delight called Urbanologi is located at 1 Fox Street next to The Sheds, and Angelo Scirocco (a Chef’s Warehouse alumnus) is at the helm of the kitchen.

The décor is very industrial, very urban, and oh-so-Joburg. Choose to sit
along a double-sided bar table flanked with saddle-shaped stools, or at one
of the booths or regular tables dotted around the space.

The menu itself is where the magic really begins: think Asian-inspired tapas or small sharing plates — a definitive trend in the foodie world at the moment. Standout dishes? Without a doubt, the Doenjang glazed beef cheek kushiyaki (a style of Asian street food preparation) with truffle cauliflower purée and sherry-braised onion, which is soft and flavourful, but with a delicious chargrilled crust — trust us on this one.

Then, the steamed brioche with truffle crème and toasted potato skin salt are completely moreish, and both dishes taste like perfection when washed down with a draught of the house Weiss. There is safe parking aplenty across the road and the high-ceilinged space fills with afternoon light through Brooklyn
framed windows, making it the ultimate weekend hangout.
