Ash — the much talked about latest addition to the unrelenting Cape Town culinary scene — is the brainchild of young chef Ash Heeger. The restaurant is run in partnership with Nicole Fenner, Andy Fenner of Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants, and Publik Wine Bar’s David Cope. Heeger, who worked with Luke Dale-Roberts at The Test Kitchen before moving to London to hone her skills at the Michelin-starred The Ledbury and Dinner by Heston, is churning out charcoal-themed cooking of Francis Mallmann proportions, in an welcoming atmosphere that’s stripped of the customary fine-dining airs and graces.
