Fans of Cube Tasting Kitchen will be happy to hear that the folks behind the well-known Parktown North restaurant have opened a casual drinks and tapas bar just around the corner. Workshop 55 is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood in a city that suffers from a lack of grown-up bars to meet for an after-work drink and a bite to eat. There’s an interesting whisky and wine selection but the real highlight is the artisanal gin and tonic menu, with
fashionable additions like orange peel, pomegranate or a sprig of thyme.

It’s R180 per person for three tapas, so go with friends and order to share. The  delicious gruyere tart will be a sure-fire crowd favourite but also try the Portuguese-style sardines and the duck pancakes. Secure a spot at one of the booth tables if you feel like lingering or grab a stool at the open-plan kitchen if you want to watch the chefs work their culinary magic.
