A case too intriguing to pass up. He desperately tries to keep himself detached from her... “Don’t believe. Don’t trust. Always maintain a high index of suspicion.” But soon he's unable to discern truth from manipulation, foresight from delusion and gift from illness. Fact, laced with fiction…?

Cape Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) alumni Jared Musiker and Lee van der Merwe dance the line of “real and imagined” in LACED, an original physical-theatre work penned by the latter and directed by Michael Kirch. LACED opens at the Alexander Bar in Cape Town on February 15.

Van der Merwe has performed with the Cape Dance Company, under the direction of Debbie Turner, in such memorable seasons as SacredSpace (2016) and A Thousand Shepherds (2016).

Musiker meanwhile was the performer and movement director of In(s)kin (2016), directed by Mbongeni Mtshali, and wrote, choreographed, performed in and directed the dance play, #BalletMustFall (2016), which won silver for Fringe Fresh Production/Experience at the Cape Town Fringe Festival.

  • LACED is on at Alexander Bar, 76 Strand Street, Cape Town from February 15 to 18 at 7pm. Tickets are R80. Book online here.
