Across from Budapest’s magnificent Chain Bridge, with its imposing statues of lions, the Four Seasons Gresham Palace overlooks the Danube River and the hills of Buda. Peter Buday, known as Pepe to his mates, has been working at the hotel since it opened in 2004 and has served as head concierge, on a team  of seven, since 2006. As representatives of one of the most prestigious addresses in the city (the building dates back to 1906), the team strive towards ensuring local businesses treat their guests as well as they do.

Where’s the party? Start the night at Kiosk and move on to the old Jewish quarter, to Gozsdu Udvar. Some highlights are Szimpla Kert, Mazel Tov and Ötkert.  

Best secret eatery loved by the locals? Kispiac.  

A new, high-end restaurant? Baraka – it fuses the flavours of the Far East and Europe. 

Which bars do you recommend? For youngsters, bar-hopping in the Jewish quarter, Telep, for example, and for older folk Boutiq’ Bar and Innio Wine Bar.

An outdoor activity that’s worth doing? A private boat ride with a stylish powerboat, the Dunarama on the Danube or a city bike tour with one of our fun guides. For families with kids, visit the zoo or the Hungarian Railway History Park.  

An unmissable piece of architecture? The Parliament Building.

What’s on at the theatre? The Katona is hosting The Seagull by Chekhov.  

Any events we shouldn’t miss? The Budapest Wine Festival in September and the Christmas Market in December.

A local band you should definitely listen to? The Budapest Bár at the Budapest Zoo.  

Any markets you should visit? The Central Market Hall, which is a very busy and colourful place, where you can try some of the heartiest food on earth.

Best for shopping for authentic local products? The Central Market Hall, or at WAMP market and GOUBA market (Sundays). 

What is the signature dish? Goulash soup, and it’s best at our Kollázs restaurant.

The best contemporary art gallery? Art  Market Budapest in October. 

You  can’t come to Budapest without seeing... The stately Opera House.
