Refilwe Moloto

Refilwe Moloto, a reformed Wall Street banker, is the founder and principal advisor of Ambassador Advisory, which provides providing strategic and investment advise to the official investment institutions of Africa’s governments and companies operating sustainably on the continent. A rich social life and creative outlook on being an economist make Moloto a relevant source on what to do this summer.

The Shortmarket Club
The restaurant’s old-world charm coalesces with its unmistakable modernity, resulting in a mix between the chic Soho Grand lobby bar and the Balthazar-esque booths—both of which belie the warm reception we have come to expect on every visit. The bar here serves the city’s best dirty gin martini, bar none. theshortmarketclub.co.za

Babylonstoren
This is one of our favourite estates in the Franschhoek winelands — at once organic and cleverly curated. Babyslonstoren offers so much to tease the senses, that one can avoid the bustle of farm-hopping during the busy season, and simply relax. babylonstoren.com

Paragliding off Lion’s Head
An unparalleled experience of flight. With the lightest gust of wind at your back, you get to see Cape Town like you’ve never seen it before. Your drop drop-off is on the Camps Bay cricket grounds in front of Bungalow, for a seafood lunch overlooking the Atlantic.

Librisa Spa at Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel
Undoubtedly my spa destination of choice. Relax under the banana leaf-inspired fans in the conservatory for a pre-dinner treat. belmond.com

Elana Brundyn is director of institutional advancement and external affairs at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz Mocaa) which opens in September 2017, and is housed in repurposed grain silos at the V&A Waterfront.

The Hall Collection
Luxury linen shopping with an added bonus. I love visiting on a Tuesday for the best lunch, prepared by owner Debbie Hall and her daughters — all three of them are cordon bleu chefs. thehallcollection.co.za

Dash Restaurant and Bar
This venue, inside the Queen Victoria Hotel at Portwood Close at the V&A Waterfront, is perfect for a quiet, hide-away lunch or dinner — it’s a secret gem. newmarkhotels.com

Hemelhuijs
Hemelhuijs is still one of my all-time favourites. Jacques Erasmus and his team always surprise me with their flavour combinations and whimsical flair.

Matt Manning

Matt Manning is certainly no average chef, having shared a kitchen with the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, and Alyn Williams. As well as being a celebrated private chef, he’s also the founder of One Ingredient — a pop-up, interactive dinner experience that aims to showcase the versatility of a single ingredient across an ever-changing, five-course menu.

Le Lude MCC Estate
This picturesque French-style estate in Franschhoek specialises in Cap Classique, and is one of my absolute favourite spots to spend the afternoon when I feel like getting out of the city. I recommend ringing ahead to arrange a private cellar tasting with winemaker Paul Gerber, who will endear himself to you with his patience, knowledge, and passion for bubbly. Then stay for a delicious lunch in the conservatory-style dining room with its charming checkered floors and French windows, while you share a bottle (or three) of the elegant Cuvée. lelude.co.za

Setamono Tableware
If you want to wow your dinner guests, paying attention to your table setting is worth the effort — after all, you want the decor and details to do the food justice. I sincerely recommend investing in Setamono Tableware: it has the most exquisite crockery I have ever seen — and as a chef I’ve seen a fair bit of crockery! setamonotableware.com

One Ingredient
Book a One Ingredient dinner. Hosted by yours truly, this interactive, pop-up, monthly dining experience is designed for those who are as excited about what goes in to creating a beautiful dish, as they are about eating it. Each month, an ingredient is selected and featured across five different courses, each carefully paired with a premium wine. Only 20 seats are available per dinner, keeping the experience intimate but very festive.
