The one indulgence you would never forgo? I love fragrances. I’m currently
obsessed with Majestic Rose by Yves Saint Laurent.

The grooming staples you are never without? As a nail salon owner, my grooming always has to be on point. Well-groomed eyebrows are a must, and I thread every two weeks religiously. And then the other “fur” control, waxing.

Your favourite gadget? It has to be my MacBook. It’s the reason I’m efficient.

Your favourite drink? Lime and soda. It’s a fresh, tasty, and clean drink. Billecart salmon brut or rosé champagne is my preferred glass of bubbly for the odd celebratory occasion.

The restaurant you frequent most often? Signature in Morningside. The service, the food, and ambiance has been maintained over the years. The salmon sashimi just melts in your mouth.

Your personal style signifier? I love black. The bulk of my cupboard is black. It’s easy, it’s chic, it’s classic. I have other colours in my wardrobe, but I somehow feel less stylish out of black.

Your favourite timepiece? My Frederique Constant. For my tiny wrist, it’s in just the right proportions.

The book on your bedside table? I’ve been gripped by The End of Average  by Todd Rose, which takes a fascinating look at how we got to a point where we are part  of a massive system where our unique patterns of behaviour are lost. It’s really thought provoking, and allows us to challenge the everyday term “average”.

The last meal that truly  impressed you? Over a long Saturday lunch with my friend Katherine, we were brought to silence by the porcini risotto and grilled rack of lamb with steamed veggies at Cafe Del Sol in Parkhurst. This dish perfectly complemented the already glam environment of the restaurant.

The last music you downloaded? José James recently performed at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz. I was reminded of a collaboration he had done with German, Berlinbased band Jazzanova. I used to listen to this song Little Bird from Jazzanova’s Of All the Things album religiously, but had misplaced the CD.

What are you eyeing next? Our mineral makeup business, MSL Cosmetics, is growing and next we’re eyeing retailing through a major retailer.

The one thing you will always find in your fridge? Ice-cold tap water. There is nothing more refreshing. But food wise, watermelon in
summer.

The best gift you’ve given recently? I recently gave a friend a box of Cohiba Cigars for his birthday. He loves cigars and we’ve been obsessed with Cuba and Latin American dancing lately.

A recent special find? As a tea lover, I’ve been enjoying Yswara gourmet artisan teas at its new tearoom at The Cosmopolitan in Maboneng. It’s a great, pan-African influenced tribute to tea. I’ve also been enjoying the Art Mile on Keys and spaces such as the Mesh lounge and bar and Marble, with its incredible views of Joburg — a city I adore.

The last item you added to your wardrobe? I went to David Tlale’s studio
to get a dress for a gala dinner I was hosting when I came across this white top from a previous range. It felt like drifting chunks of ice in an icy ocean. I just had to have it.

Favourite city? Apart from Johannesburg, I love London. It’s the one city I’ve been to the most outside South Africa. You can never finish London, so it’s best to enjoy the treasures you’ve found, while discovering one or two new things with every visit.
