If you find yourself in Durban this weekend, pop into the KZNSA gallery for a walkabout of the intriguing 'Five Degrees of Realism' group show. The introduction to the exhibition on Saturday 1 April at 10am will be lead by participating artists, Ian Calder and Heather Gourlay-Conyngham who will explain how the individual works of the five collaborators in turn reflect on the work of one or more of the other exhibiting artists. These five established professionals are part of an ongoing peer mentoring and discussion group, linked by the fact that at one time or another they have worked at or headed up the Fine Art Department at UKZN, Pietermaritzburg.

Louise Hall also happens to be the first and only person in South Africa to receive a PhD for studio work instead of a paper.

Architecturally, this is also one of our favourite national galleries so don't rush. Order a coffee, a delicious brunch at the Arts Cafe and reflect on the surroundings at a sensible Durban pace.
