The sale is led by two tapestries by Athi-Patra Ruga that critique convention with playful imagery. Artworks by Wycliffe Mundopa, Serge Alain Nitegeka and Mohau Modisakeng are other highlights of the sale.
Encompassing over 100 lots, the collection is representative of Africa in the present and into the future. Notably, Cape Town conceptual artist Ed Young’s sculptural installation titled Hero will be available for viewing and purchase.

Ruarc Peffers, the MD of Aspire Art says that “Aspire Art is the leading auction house for late-20th century and contemporary art in Africa, for Africa. Our most recent single-owner collection — Art, Life and Love: The Collection of Nwabisa Xayiya in 2021 — demonstrated this fact unequivocally.
“We are proud to follow this up with a new single-owner collection of leading contemporary art from Africa and further afield, comprising some of the finest examples from many of SA’s leading contemporary visionaries.
