We’ve long been fans of both Jackie Burger of Salon 58 in Stellenbosch as well as Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen of JAN restaurant in Nice.

Those in the know will know that the two are close friends and share a passion for all things French. Well this year they decided to celebrate all that they loved and it came together in an event that was undoubtedly the most stylish party of the year.

Held at Wellington’s Old Tannery on the banks of the Kromrivier, Salon 58 Trace was a magical day of food and fashion and finery as everyone dressed according to the theme.

Said Jackie: “Jan and I both grew up in an Afrikaans farming community, pushed against boundaries as young adults and found part of ourselves in France. For me, it was fashion; for Jan, food.’”

She and Jan put together an event that would share their personal tastes with friends and followers.

For this joint party, four ingredients Jan Hendrik grew up with on his parents’ farm were created by Slippery Spoon at food stations by Curated Event Concepts.

Fashion by Stefania Morland, Trenery, Witchery, Country Road, AKJP, H&M, Kat van Duinen, Tread + Miller, Tilonè and Crystal Birch was presented as part of the event.

“Sustainable style and authenticity go hand in hand as we seek to take the best from the past and reinvent it for today. Therefore I chose classic items with dramatic updates and new-millennium cachet,” said Jackie.

Market stalls sold vintage finds by Plan B Vintage, notebooks and cushions by Masquerade, homeware was by Jan, blooms were by Blomboy, candles and skincare were by Africology, artworks were by Lucie de Moyencourt, artisanal bread was by Schoon de Companje and Clemengold provided the craft gin.

Feast your eyes on this truly stylish affair (additional images):
