Chef James Diack of Coobs fame has a new baby, The National eatery and speakeasy, a colourful casual (no dirty looks) bistro in Parktown North. “We cook up farm-to-table delicious soul food using ingredients that don’t need to be prettied up and can cheer up anyone having a bad day,” he says.

His favourite dish (that incidentally started off as a staff meal) is a confit pulled shoulder pork  cooked in sticky spring onion and coconut rice. The menu changes every six weeks, so patrons can look forward to something new all the time, including scrumptious smoked dishes, which he smokes himself at the back of the restaurant.
