Tasha’s Nelson Mandela Square

The cover charge for the Flamingo Room — the pink, Art Deco area of the restaurant — is well worth it. Amuse bouche and glass of bubbly comes standard as you sit in one of the plush, pink chairs, as well as proper linen and delicate glassware. As with all Tasha’s, the Nelson Mandela Square restarant has a theme, and this one is an African-glamour delight. The menu boasts delicately painted birds and creatures on its pages, which inspire the cocktails. Try the French 18 — a take on a signature cocktail from Harry’s bar in Paris — which comes with a tiny, origami bird perched along the rim of the glass, and pair it with the delectably grilled, sliced picanha, with chimichurri and a side of pap and sheba to share.

Selva Portuguese Kitchen

A new and inspired spot above Warm & Glad in Craighall that serves a variety of Portuguese- inspired dishes. There’s a Lisbon influence plus a French trained chef, so it’s not completely traditional. Try the salt-cod croquettes and peri-peri prawns to start. Then, wash down a main of fresh sardines and grilled bread with authentic Portuguese wine.

Luke Dale Roberts X Saxon

Take the hassle out of Christmas Eve dinner and let Luke Dale-Roberts and head chef Candice Philip do the cooking. Expect delights such as a salmon, crab, and green apple starter; and a main course of duck, Christmas pudding, and berries — all whipped up in that inimitable Dale-Roberts style. The New Years Eve’s six-course dinner is also well worth the treat.

Croft & Co

Brunch is the perfect breakfast indulgence on weekends and holidays — and don’t forget a Bloody Mary to wash it down. Croft & Co is headed by the vibrant Grant Ravenscroft and he makes sure only the best brunch ingredients are brought to your table. Try the creamy scrambled eggs with streaky bacon on bolo do caco, or the more-ish Breakfast Bun (eggs, bacon, and relish). Nearer to lunch? A prego roll with grilled onions will hit the spot. The cortado coffee is pretty fantastic too.

Café del Sol Tre

The interior is Art Deco in style and runs along the sunny strip of 4 Avenue, Parkhurst. This is the third establishment from the Café del Sol familia, hence its name — Tre. Every item on the menu comes with its own 1920s-inspired name from Bright Young Things (a smoked salmon carpaccio) to the Shroom Rapsody (a porcini mushroom risotto). The simple yet satisfying Ragutime — homemade tagliatelle with a pork and beef ragu — gets our vote.

Momo Baohaus

Welcome to authentically fresh, Taiwanese-inspired food in Greenside. On arrival, the Salmon Ceviche Taco is a good place to start your food journey, and then follow this with a bao or two (think pillowy soft steamed buns folded like a sandwich). Try the Chairman Bao, which comes stuffed with hoisin, pulled lamb, pickled shitake, coriander, toasted sesame, fried onion, cucumber, and microgreens. Take a seat by the bar and order each plate as you finish the last for the best tapas experience.

Open Tuesday to Sunday; closed from December 15 to January 4
