As a result of the Covid-19 21-day lockdown in South Africa, all non-essential businesses have had to close their doors. This includes gyms. The rule was clear: stay at home, period. Police Minister Bheki Cele was resolute; dogs would not be walked, joggers would not jog.
Panic set in. How would daily fitness goals be met or hit that step count Apple Watch and FitBit relentlessly reminds you of? Well, like all gloomy clouds, there is (if I may so bold as to say) a silver lining to this situation … our favourite fitness apps have become free – for the time being.
Maybe you already have a home gym or a lap pool. Perhaps you even have a tennis court … but now you can access professional and guided workouts, too. If you’ve got nada (not even a 2kg dumbbell) that’s no problem. Some of these apps offer workouts that don’t require any apparatus. Boost those endorphins – a great, and very necessary, mood elevator – and fill your time. It’s a win-win, really. Get flexing, when the lockdown is over at least you’ll have a six pack to show for it!
