PUMA’S THUNDER ELECTRIC SNEAKERS
I can’t help thinking that the ugly trainer trend is a very modern case of The Emperor’s New Clothes. A few years ago, we all swore we wouldn’t be seen dead in Crocs, but then along came the Balenciaga Triple S multi-decker monster truck of dad trainers – and we all lost our minds.
Now everyone’s competing to see who can make the ugliest sneakers. I just can’t do it. But if I have to, it will probably be in these ones, Puma’s Thunder Electric. Actually, no, the name just kills me. Bring me my Palladiums.

LADY KITTY SPENCER JOINS BULGARI
Who could have missed Lady Kitty Spencer at the royal wedding last month? Fresh from the pages of their exquisite campaign shot in Venice, she was wearing top to toe Dolce et Gabbana and her radiant look almost eclipsed Amal’s golden triumph.
It seems there’s definitely an Italian love affair going on because luxury jewellery house Bulgari has just signed Lady Kitty as a brand ambassador. You may know that Princess Diana’s niece more or less grew up in Cape Town so we’re holding thumbs she’ll be motivating for plenty of high end jewellery campaign shoots back in the Mother City.
One thing we know is that Lady Kitty has a good heart and is likely to be supporting our country’s charitable causes: She has already raised fortunes for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Save the Children. Certainly not just a pretty face.
TAG HEUER MARKS A SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY AT LE MANS
No-one could ever mistake me for a motorsport enthusiast, but when it comes to men’s watches, I’m a dedicated fan. With the Le Mans 24-hour race taking place over the past weekend, I was less interested in the car standings than I was in all the watch goings on. And boy, was there a lot of that. My standout has to be the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Gulf Special Ediiton, as well as a 50-piece limited edition of the Monaco Gulf. In the quirky orange and blue colours of the Gulf Oil Ford that won Le Mans in 1968, this quartz chronograph is a retro beauty. And if time-keeping is your thing, the movement is accurate to a tenth of a second.

LOUIS XIII SINGS IF WE CARE
It’s hard not to be enchanted by the latest campaign for the Rolls Royce of Cognac: Louis XIII from Remy Martin. Louis XIII is blended using more than 1200 eaux de vie – some of which could be up to 100 years old. It is the cognac’s unique relation to time that has inspired a time machine approach to creating environmental awareness too.
At the end of last year, 100 VIPs were invited to listen to Pharrel Williams perform a tune he had composed for the occasion – only to lock away the only recording of the song for 100 years! The song, called If We Care is about man’s destruction of the planet and the safe that houses the recording will only spring open in 100 years’ time, if the seas have not risen over it and destroyed the disc. I may not have heard the tune, but it’s a catchy concept indeed.

DIANE VICTOR AT THE GOODMAN
There’s something intriguingly disturbing about the smoke pictures created by South African artist Diane Victor. Her latest works were created during two residencies in France and the United States and will be exhibited at the Goodman Gallery in Cape Town from Saturday 23rd June.
Which Hunt? will confont the complex social hierarchies and patriarchal power structures in our society.
